About Me
The name's Marian Jenica A. Rodriguez, and I live life inspired through Psychology, communication, fashion and bit by bit, travel.

I just graduated with a degree in BS Psychology from Centro Escolar University, and I love how it became the most beautiful accident that has ever happened to me. It's like being hit by a truck loaded with roses and actually smelling fragrant for the rest of your freaking life afterwards. Yes, that's how awesome it is. :))

Right now, I'm 21 and embracing my new life as an upcoming young professional in the world of Training and Organizational Development, in one of the most creative, lucrative and exciting industries to be in, Consultancy. :)

Whatever happens, happens. As far as my present and future is concerned, I'm ready to try anything, and I'll never say never. (Cheesy right? But so true!) This is the BEST way to live life inspired. ;)

Do you really wanna live forever… FOREVER YOUNG?

Forever 21

Yesterday was the first time I went to visit school since I started working almost two months ago. Upon entering the university, I felt as if it has already been a year since I left, when in fact, I was still roaming around the campus last April. Oh, the many sudden changes in my life brought about by graduating.

It’s a strange feeling, being out of school. It’s great to work and be learning so many interesting things that I know I never would’ve gotten the chance to discover at school, but I guess when the pacing is very fast, you kind of feel old… Not young.

I work in an industry where age matters. The older you are, the better. This connotes “wisdom” and “years of fruitful experience”. But you’ll notice how immature and childish adults are when you’re out there. They easily give up, they always complain and they are never contented. Sadly, if you allow yourself to be exposed to these types of negative attitudes, it becomes a part of you, turning you into an old, miserable adult. Working with a handful of companies already in my brief 7 weeks of starting on the job, I realized that you wind up a loser if you let yourself be swayed by other people. I’m only 21, but one very “adult” trait that I promised myself I will never lose in the long run is STICKING TO MY VALUES.

My values, no matter where I went, has always been intact, the same, and has never changed. I ride along with what people like, but do not copy what they do when I know it wouldn’t be good for me. Sure, I am capable of doing a few “bad-ass” things (which I like to keep WHILE I’M YOUNG), but I don’t want to lose the REAL ME as I progress through my twenties. If I could stay 21 forever, why not right? It’s the best age to be: Brimming with youth and bottomless amounts of energy, willing to try everything and anything and seeing the world in limitless possibility… These are traits that all adults envy. Traits that I know they are wishing they had right now. But you know, everyone can stay 21 forever! It’s all in the state of mind. :)

You can be 21 and think like a 90-year-old. Slow and retired, without having taken any chances in life. But you can be a 90-year-old and still feel like your 21, having savored every minute of your life by trying your hand at everything and making the effort to consistently do something new. I want to grow up, but still maintain the attitude I have right now. I will stay the same me, but look even better (of course!) and prance around the world with my “21” state of mind. :D

Find A Job You’ll Love in Two Simple Ways

“Find a job you’ll really love, and you’ll never have to work a single day for the rest of your life.” -Oprah Winfrey.

So true! Here are two handy tips that were useful for me during my job hunt. I’m glad I found the job that I was looking for all along. :)

1. Be honest with what you really want. ANO BA TALAGA? What is your heart’s true desire? Focus on that. Because if you’re just pretending to like your job, you’ll wind up resigning in a matter of days, weeks or months. SAYANG ANG ORAS MO. When you GENUINELY LIKE your job, it is so easy to be successful because you’re willing to put up with all of the challenges and difficulties because it’s already understood that you love what you do! And when you’re successful, everything follows (including financial fulfillment).

2. Look for a job that suits your personality. No matter how offbeat or strange you think you are, THERE IS A JOB FOR YOU! Here’s something I learned from a career convention I attended last year: If you choose a career that doesn’t suit your personality, you become confused, unhappy and burned-out. No company would want an employee like that!

Akala ko nga rin walang trabahong para sa isang katulad ko dahil sobrang magkakalayo ang interests ko. But to my surprise, my current job right now involves the things that I actually love: Psychology, Communication, Fashion and Travel! :D All I did was follow these two simple rules to the oath, and I found myself a job that I actually see myself doing until I retire from old age! :))

It’s DEFINITELY the LOOK OF LOVE. Grabe, iba eh. Ibang-iba sila magtitigan. The looks they share with each other were very subtle glances, but you could feel in your gut that there is a hidden intensity in those numerous, stolen stares. It’s REAL LOVE. :)

“Love doesn’t come in a minute! Sometimes, it doesn’t come at all. I only know that when I’m in it, it isn’t silly, it isn’t silly, LOVE ISN’T SILLY AT ALL… NOT AT ALL.” —-Silly Love Songs by Sir Paul McCartney :))

Style Profile (taken from Preview Magazine’s monthly section)

Because I’m such a fan of Preview (I have been reading their magazine since I turned 15 and realized that I have NOTHING in common with the boy-crazy articles of a teen magazine I previously collected back then), I just HAD to answer these questions, pretending for a moment that I am one of the privileged fashionistas in Manila chosen by my fave mag to be in their Style Profile. HEEHEEHEEEE! :)

Define Style: Style is a reflection of who you are: your lifestyle, your sensibilities, your likes and your preferences.

How has your style evolved over the years? My style is simpler.

Whose style influences your dress sense? It’s a mix between Lauren Conrad, Rachel Bilson, Olivia Palermo (of The City fame), but my real-life style is more that of Natalie Portman’s. Her style reminds me of dressing up simply for day, and amping it up at night. And, dress for the life you live, not the life you dream of living.

What’s your latest clothing obsession? I can’t get enough of those nude pumps and those adorable bowtie blouses. So cute, I need them badly! Also, I’m crazy about the charming bracelets and necklaces from Gingersnaps. I like accessories that are interesting, that seem like it has stories to tell.

What is luxury for you? Luxury is an experience you’d like to live all over again because it’s special and one-of-a-kind.

Why do you like dressing up? I like looking neat and presentable, almost like packaging myself in the best way possible.

How do you organize your closet? By type and by color.

How do you dress for your body type? Right now, I’m into wearing dark-wash boot cut or slightly flared jeans with wedge shoes or pumps to elongate my legs, dresses that are right above the knee or just right smack in the middle to make me look tall, bras with slight padding since I am flat-chested, belts to give me a waist, and heels at formal events.

Do you dress for your own pleasure? For men? Or for other women? Always for myself!

It bag or shoe that haunts you? I dream of owning a pair of Christian Louboutin Anemone stiletto pumps. They’re soooo gorgeous! I also fantasize owning a Marc Jacobs Stam bag.

Collections? Fashion magazines and accessories. I have so many!

Runway hits? Always Christian Dior. John Galliano is a genius. They need him back there! Also, Carolina Herrera and Monique Lhuillier never fail to have an arsenal of runway hits that are all about femininity.

Artistic influence? I adore artist and illustrator Ruben Toledo’s work.

Fashion Favorites:

Style Icon: Natalie Portman. I would wear everything she has worn on the red carpet!

Book: It’s a little bit dated, but it’s US Weekly’s Secrets of Celebrity Style. I loved all the visuals, plus Jen Aniston’s Chanel look at the 2005 Emmys was the cover. It’s one of my favorite looks of all time.

Shopping Destination: Though I’m always at Gateway, Taguig’s Market! Market! and Bonifacio High Street are my current loves of the moment.

Movie: The Devil Wears Prada. Even the book is awesome.

Vacation Hotspot: Any beach in the Philippines would do, but I’d have to say I’ve been dreaming of going to Batanes for the longest time! If I’m going to vacation at an island, might as well do it here rather than go overseas.
